There are fifteen fishing vessels, three of which are owned by the company, fishing for Queen Scallops (Chlamys opercularis) and King Scallops (Pecten maximus) on a daily basis.

The town of Kirkcudbright and its tidal harbour are situated on the River Dee near the head of Kirkcudbright Bay. A long inlet that runs up from the Solway Firth.

Downstream from the harbour, pleasure boats and yachts tie up at the new marina with its superb floating pontoon.

In medieval times the harbour was one of the most important Scottish ports. John Paul Jones, the founder of the American Navy, landed in Kirkcudbright bay with intention of kidnapping the Earl of Selkirk.

The present harbour was constructed in 1911.
